If George Bush Gave the Equivalent of Lincoln's Gettysburg Address

Two score and 17 months ago, I brought forth in the Persian Gulf a new conflict misconceived in secret and dedicated to the proposition that all oil belongs to Halliburton.

Now we are caught in a bloody great insurgency, testing whether that conglomerate or any conglomerate so greedy can get away with stiffing the world.

They are met on the great commodity futures trading floor.

They consistently honor the brokers and traders who make multi-millions in bonuses for driving the price of oil over $100 a barrel, allowing them to take early retirement while the bottom 20%.of the people struggle to make ends meet.

It is altogether fitting and proper that they should do this.
For in a larger sense, they dare not rest, they dare not slacken, they dare not forget that competitors abound.

These free marketers, struggling day after day, strive for $200 a barrel – which they claim would cut greenhouse gas emissions more efficiently than the government ever dreamed could be done.

Thankfully, the world will little note and quickly forget what is said here, for it will be too busy trying to find the money to pay the bill it has been handed here.

It is for each consumer, employed or laid off, to cash in your savings so that oil lobbyists can rig legislation that allows drilling wells in new, previously protected and environmentally sensitive regions.

It is also in the cards for your children and their children to go to war so this nation can meet its needs in the post-peak oil era – the work being so nobly advanced today in Iraq.

The public must re-dedicate itself to this task remaining before it – that from these honored traders and lobbyists it is to expect nothing even though the poor and the near poor, without a dime to their names, pay to the last drop of blood in the oil wars to prove their commitment to the cause of unbridled capitalism.

But hey – those at the top are highly resolved that the dead and wounded from the oil wars shall not have died in vain, that this nation , under martial law, shall have a rebirth of the unitary presidency, and that government in cahoots with conglomerates, benefitting only conglomerates, and then becoming a conglomerate, finally kills all life on this earth.

I LOVE your cranky, sourpuss Gettysburg Address. I mean it. However anyone expresses the plain truth, even in this very wry and funny way, it's truth, and it shall set you free. God bless you.

Almost too good to be true; A retired Colonel who not only don't support Bu$h,but expresses disdain of Bu$h'$ war for oil.

Thanks,

U.S. - With the terrorists

"Yer either with us (pause), or yer with the terrorists."

Turns out us 'merkuns have been funding a couple of Russian new-q-lar institutes that have been helping the Iranians with enriching uranium. According to the dumbya (who had to ask Poppy what a neoconservative R) strategy, we should launch a preemptive strike against ourselves, bomb ourselves back to the Stone Age, loot and destroy our museums and national treasures, wipe out our own infrastructure, depose our leadership, give them a fair trial then hang them (God, I love that part!).

By this time unemployment should be at about 50%, food will be short and what hospitals are left will be down to basic services without medical supplies. Oops! I almost forgot collateral damage. We need to wipe out a few million innocent civilians (hopefully in the radical right wing) by accident. Don't forget depleted uranium, to be sure. If it's good enough for the Iraqis and Afghanis, it's good enough for us, right?

What's left of us after millions flee to Canada and Mexico (Mexico?) will mount an insurgency to drive out the occupiers, while our troops indiscriminately kill or imprison citizens (who will be tortured to get information they don't have) since they don't know which ones of us are the insurgents. Our economy will go in the toilet and we will borrow a couple of hundred billion from the Chinese so everybody gets six hundred dollars to "stimulate" the economy. Wait. Strike that; we're already doing that.

The need for more weapons and munitions will allow the military industrial complex to thrive. They'll hire more people as well as taking in ex-government officials as consultants and lobbyists. Billions of dollars will be given in no bid contracts to the needy corporate war profiteers (Halliburton, KBR, Bectel, Blackwater, etc.) which will then be spent on whatever they want as long as they overcharge for everything they don't do.

As I write this, it's starting to sound like a good idea. I could go on, but I have to stop now. The attendant just showed up to take me back to my room for my meds.

Sincerely,

Israel in Colorado (I think)

Thank you for your "Gettysburg Address". I have been supporting "green" for years and, at times, feeling very alone in my desire to protect the earth. It is so good to have companions on this journey. Perhaps there is hope to win the fight against the pure greed displayed by George Bush and his supporters.
